WHAT WE FOCUS ON
Founded in 2020, with operations in both Canada and the Republic of the Congo. We implement programs that are strategically designed to address critical needs, build resilience, and promote self-sufficiency within the communities we serve.
Our work is focused on three core areas:
- Community Uplift: We offer education, training, and skill-building initiatives, to empower individuals to thrive independently.
- Essential Needs: We provide immediate relief through several essential services for marginalized communities.
- Support for Francophones of African Descent (Soutien aux Afrodescendants Francophones): We address service access gaps for Francophones of African descent, focusing on overcoming language and cultural barriers to support their integration into Canadian society.
OUR WORK IN CANADA
We focus on creating lasting impact within marginalized communities in Calgary and surrounding areas, through initiatives designed to foster self-sufficiency, resilience, and empowerment.
Community Uplift
- Rise & Thrive: Health Empowerment Series for ACB Youth
The initiative aims at supporting African, Caribbean, and Black youth by addressing health disparities and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare education. It provides essential knowledge and practical skills in nutrition, mental health, chronic disease prevention, and sexual health, empowering participants to make informed decisions and enhance their well-being.
- BrightCare Learning Pathway
Designed to empower immigrant families in Calgary to support children with diverse learning abilities. By addressing stigma and cultural barriers, BrightCare fosters understanding, equips caregivers with vital tools, and promotes a supportive, inclusive community where every child can thrive.
Essential Needs Support
- Nourishing Futures: Food Assistance 4 All
This is a food assistance program aimed at tackling food insecurity and economic instability within low-income families, immigrants, and individuals of African descent. This program provides culturally sensitive food hampers and grocery gift cards, addressing the unique dietary needs of these communities while fostering dignity and inclusion. In addition to offering immediate relief, BLFA actively advocates for systemic solutions to food insecurity, working towards long-term impact and economic stability for the individuals and families we serve.
- WrappedBum Program
This initiative supports new immigrant mothers by providing essential items for their newborns, such as diapers, baby clothing, and care products. By relieving financial stress for new parents, the program ensures they can focus on nurturing their babies in a less stressful environment. With healthier, supported parents, babies are given the best chance for a strong and healthy start in life.
Support for Francophones of African Descent (Soutien aux Afrodescendants Francophones)
- Tremplin vers l’Emploi
This program provides Francophones from African descent with volunteer opportunities within our organization and partnering organizations, along with workplace training to enhance their understanding of Canadian workplace culture. By offering these opportunities, the program supports their successful integration into the workforce, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience and build skills that are crucial for professional growth. The initiative is designed to facilitate placements in various organizations across Calgary, giving participants exposure to different industries and work environments..
- Soutien à l’Éducation : Renforcement des Compétences des Jeunes et Parcours vers la Réussite
This program empowers children aged 6-17 from low-income Afrodescendant francophone communities in Calgary and surrounding areas by addressing barriers to quality education and fostering academic success. At the beginning of each school year, the Kit de Rentrée Scolaire initiative provides essential school supplies, including backpacks, calculators, and notebooks, ensuring that children have the resources they need to fully engage in their education.
In addition, the program features the Prix d’Excellence initiative, a prestigious award that celebrates the academic achievements, contributions to the community, and cultural heritage of young individuals. By providing school supplies and offering recognition for excellence, this program promotes social inclusion, empowers families, and alleviates financial stress, giving children the best opportunity to thrive academically and socially.
- Femmes Actrices du Changement
This initiative empowers francophone women of African descent to strengthen their voices and influence in their communities through workshops and activities focused on leadership skills, cultural heritage, and community advocacy. By celebrating their cultural heritage and building supportive networks, Femmes Actrices du Changement helps francophone women of African descent become leaders and advocate for positive change.
