Founder’s Story

I was born and grew up in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. I spent my formative years and most of my adulthood surrounded by resilient people who have suffered through wars, epidemics, and recently a worldwide pandemic.

Two decades ago, my family and I had the privilege of calling Canada home. We were welcome into an inclusive society and have experienced an enhanced quality of life over the years.

While adjusting to life in Canada, I encountered individuals who faced similar life challenges to those in my country of origin. Despite the higher standard of living and advanced development in Canada, there were still societal inequalities, poverty and food insecurity amongst vulnerable populations.

The similarities in both countries created a strong desire in me to give back; give back to the country who nurtured me as well as the country I have called home for the past decades.

My desire to have a positive impact and transform lives led me to found Bright Lights for Africa, a non profit whose vision is to empower underprivileged and marginalized individuals through acts of love, compassion and generosity.
